Don't Look in the Trees

Both Dr. [REDACTED] and Dr. Henrietta talk further into the forest.

"Do you also hear that...?" he asked in a hushed tone."

;"No...?". But then she starts to hear them. Multiple whispery voices coming from every direction. She couldn't recognize any of them, but she can see the look on his face; he was ecstatic. She walked in the opposite direction of the noise and towards the entrance of the forest.

He turns to her and grabs her shoulder--"Where do you think you're going?"

   She bites him.

   "Ow!". He lets go.

"Look... we are researchers, not field agents!" she mutters, gritting her teeth. "I know things are different at your Site. But in the words of an equally superstitious friend of mine--we don't do this shit! In the south where I was raised, I was taught that if you hear strange noises in the woods at night; you turn and walk away from it!". She then catches her breath. "Just so you know, I won't answer when you call for help...". She then walks away.

"But the trees, they're... they're finally screaming."

;"I'll make you scream, if you don't shut the fuck up about those goddamn trees!". She sighs. "It's not the trees... and don't look in them...". She continues to walk out of the woods.

"People forget that the trees are older than human life itself; with that it is possible that the trees scream differently than us humans. Because trees don't have vocal cords. I believe whenever it falls silent in a forest; that's when the trees scream. The scream isn't a noise, but rather that uneasy feeling of being watched or that something bad is going to happen and you need to get out... The scream is a silent warning and I know for a fact that a certain someone would disagree with me. I don't care if that someone does. He can rant all he wants. I'm not going in a forest at sunset to investigate a sound that is similar to screaming."
